WHY IS CALIFORNIA'S HOUSING MARKET BROKEN?
Systemic Bottlenecks & Overregulation
From complex zoning laws to endless permit requirements, excessive regulations are suffocating new developments. Every outdated rule adds time, cost, and uncertainty, making it harder to deliver the affordable housing our communities desperately need.
The Struggle for Smart Growth
Our local governments should be facilitators of progress, but they often become bottlenecks. Inefficient permitting and inconsistent rulings lead to staggering delays—sometimes for years—wasting resources that should be building homes for our workforce.
The "Nefarious Builder" Myth
Too often, politicians unfairly demonize our homebuilders—the very innovators and workers who take on immense risk to create housing and local jobs. These essential partners should be recognized for their vital role in our nation’s economic engine, not used as political scapegoats.
Weaponized Environmental Reviews
While environmental protection is a core value, processes like CEQA are frequently abused by special interests to intentionally block sustainable, transit-oriented housing. This "NIMBY" (Not In My Backyard) opposition adds legal battles and costs that ultimately hike up housing prices for everyone.
"Opportunity Hoarding" & Economic Exclusion
For too long, exclusionary land-use policies have been used as a tool to keep the 'haves' in and the 'have-nots' out. When we limit the types of homes that can be built, we aren't just protecting 'neighborhood character'—we are hoarding opportunity. This artificial scarcity forces our workforce to commute hours away from their jobs and prices out the very students and young families who are the future of California. We believe housing is a civil right, and a rigged market that prioritizes property values over people’s lives is a market that needs to be dismantled.
OUR MISSION: EQUITABLE ABUNDANCE
We believe in a California where everyone has the opportunity to own a home near where they work and study. We are a movement of frustrated first-time buyers, students, and community members uniting to demand systemic change.
We Humanize Development
We bridge the gap between our communities and the builders ready to create housing. We celebrate the essential role of construction professionals and developers, ensuring they are seen as the valuable community partners they are.
We Advocate for Streamlined Progress
We champion policies that modernize permitting, reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens, and foster an environment where homes can be built efficiently, responsibly, and sustainably.
We Mobilize Your Voice
Through collective action and strategic political advocacy, we ensure that pro-housing voices are heard loud and clear in City Halls and in Sacramento.
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW. JOIN THE MOVEMENT!
ABOUT CITIZENS 4 HOMES
At Citizens 4 Homes, we refuse to accept a future where homeownership in California is an impossible dream. Founded by Adrian Aros, a Civic Entrepreneur and Congressional Candidate deeply rooted in community advocacy, we saw the frustration of students and first-time buyers firsthand.
We exist to transform that frustration into powerful, collective action. We are building a dynamic grassroots movement dedicated to dismantling the overregulation and political rhetoric that stifle housing development. Our mission is simple: to advocate for common-sense policies that open doors to affordable homes, foster vibrant, walkable communities, and ensure future generations can build their lives and thrive right here in California.
